About
Living and working in the North East of England, I was the first Fine Artist (Digital) to be accepted onto Teesside University's School of Computing PhD programme, and my doctoral thesis title was, ‘Haute Games: Innovative Self and Self-Identity Blendings’. You can find the abstract for my thesis and also some examples of my digital artwork on my website http://maggieparker.co.uk.
Previously employed in the banking and accounting fields and after becoming the Director of a limited company, I completely changed my direction and returned to education, obtaining a First Class Honours Degree in Art and Design at the University of Sunderland. Beginning a Masters degree in Fine Art at Sunderland, I obtained a post graduate diploma in Fine Art, and then completed a Masters Degree in Creative Multimedia at the University of Teesside, which re-ignited my interest in 3d modelling software, and the possibilities of artistic uses of virtual environments.
I lecture in Computer Game Animation and curate art-work for the Greig Gallery, part of the School of Computing at the University of Teesside, showcasing both computer game industry concept art work and student produced work. My post-doctoral work is continuing to build on the results of my research, investing the possibilities of using abstract art for game-pipeline possibilities.
Following on from the very successful inaugural staff exhibition 'ScMART' in the drawing studios of the Athena Building, Teesside University, I have curated an exhibition at the Python Gallery, Middlesbrough for academic staff to showcase our creative work. This showcases what we believe to be the world's first 3d representation of fractal geomety, the mandelbulb. Having won the Times Higher Award 'University of the Year' the school are supporting this endeavour with enthusiasm.
I am a member of edan [East Durham Artist Network [www.edan.org.uk] and Middlesbrough Artists Project, and have exhibited, curated and selected works for exhibitions for the Royal Cambrian Academy Gallery and various shows and events nationally and internationally.
For this network I have organised a reciprocal exhibition with St Ives Art Club where we 'swopped' galleries for a week and am curating an exhibition in the European Parliament Buildings in Brussels with the support of our local and European MP's.
